I’ve just learned that my fellow Phoenician, Lon “Mr. Screencast” Naylor has just released his much anticipated V2.0 update to “Screencast Profits“.
With Screencast Profits 2.0, Lon has raised the bar on showing you how to become an expert in producing presentation videos with screen recording tools like Camtasia and Screenflow. (Camtasia is now available on both Windows and OS X, while Screenflow is only available on OS X.)
WHAT IS A “SCREENCAST”
The term “screencast” is used here as a generic term to refer to materials produced and used to deliver information via a video player, possibly with an audio track included. Screencasts can be delivered in a number of formats, including:
- Flash (.swf or .flv);
- Quicktime (.mov);
- the new MP4 video format;
- Windows video (.wmv) format, or
- any other video format you might like.
The latest versions of most tools allow you to save your work in most of these formats, and many more.
WHY SHOULD I CARE?
Many people aren’t aware of the fact that not only are online videos the fastest growing segment of freely available content, but they can also be VERY PROFITABLE.
You can make screencast videos for many purposes:
- fun
- profit
- education
- promote your business, club, organization, or event
If you’re a marketer, you should be aware that if you create an interesting video that gets some traction and goes “viral”, you can get buried in traffic to your web site! Why would this happen?
Well, you probably know that Google is the largest search engine in the world. But YouTube (owned by Google) is either the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th largest search engine depending on who’s study you read. Either way, YouTube gets a TON of search traffic, and every bit of it is cross-referenced in Google’s regular search results.
So whatever you post on YouTube gets you onto Google as well. And something else a lot of folks don’t know is that hardly anybody who posts stuff on YouTube pays any attention to the SEO aspects of their posts. Which means if you’re one of the tiny fraction of a percent of videos that DOES have meaningful tags and search terms associated with your videos, then your videos are far more likely than others to show up in searches and lead to traffic.

You might not want to go to the expense of purchasing Camtasia or Screenflow, or perhaps you just can’t afford it. In that case, here’s an alternative: GFX Video Writer is a powerful yet easy-to-use Windows application that only costs $25. It’s like a mash-up between Camtasia and PowerPoint. If you’re looking for an easy way to turn articles into videos, GFX Video Writer is ideal. Just take any article, paste it into the program, split it into pages, add some music and maybe some bling, and save it in any number of popular video formats. Then just post it to YouTube along with your SEO tags and a backlink to your site!
Another terrific tool to consider is EZ Lesson Manager. If you’re creating video content as tutorial materials, you can use EZ Lesson Manager to create online quizzes and exams to test the learning effectiveness of your students. Use it to create certification exams, test for general or specific knowledge or skill levels, or even use it to qualify people to attain higher levels of membership in your site.
