I’ve got a really exciting announcement today!

I’ve just created a little Windows app that makes it AMAZINGLY EASY to install RAP Patch files.

It’s called RAPatchy, and you can get it RIGHT NOW.

Using RAPatchy, you can install new patches in under two minutes.  It automatically figures out the fewest number of files needed to be replaced, based on the version of RAP you’ve got installed on your server. Amazing, no?

In fact, Sid is about to release an update very soon.

So you’ll have an opportunity to try this out right away.

TWO FLAVORS!

There are two versions of RAPatchy: A “Basic” version and a “Pro” version.  They’re identical, except that the Pro version lets you create multiple Project Groups, which is ideal for anybody who works with clients and wants a way to manage multiple RAP sites independently for different clients.

RAPatchy is designed to simplify the application of patches to the current main version of RAP (V3.2).

It’s not designed to help with major version upgrades.

However, I’m looking at adding the ability to support major upgrades in the future.

Digi Launch Pad theme

As you probably know, I’m a BIG fan of using Rapid Action Profits (RAP) with the Add-To-Cart addon to create Buy Now buttons that can be put anywhere. In particular, it’s really easy to create sales pages in WordPress and put an Add-To-Cart button on them.

The problem is, most sales page themes I’ve seen either look like crap or they’re ridiculously expensive.

I’ve got several premium WP themes, and while they’re quite flexible, you have to lay out every page every time.

I’ve also got some themes created for WP that are supposedly “sales page themes”, but they’re more akin to fancy borders that you can load up in a Word doc, if you know what I mean. You get a nice border and color scheme, but that’s about it.

I just came across this premium theme called the Digi Launch Pad theme, and it’s just da BOMB!

It lets you create sales pages in WordPress that look very similar to what you can do with Kajabi, Easy Video Player, and many others.

It’s currently listed as a WSO for $27, but the price is supposed to increase to $97 sometime tomorrow (Friday) the 12th. (Sorry I didn’t notice it sooner!)

They also have a Developer’s License that you can get for $97 that lets you flip sites that have this theme installed on them. (The price goes up to $297 tomorrow as well.)

I just got a copy of this and I’ll be playing with it over the next few days. I’ve been looking for a nice and INEXPENSIVE sales page theme to use with WordPress, and this looks like it’s the perfect solution.

Why not go take a look and if it looks like something you can use, grab a copy while the price is still low. The author is offering a 60-day return period, so it’s hard to go wrong!

BTW, one thing that’s not obvious about it that I got clarified is that you can use any payment button want with this. It has support for PayPal and built-in, but you’re not restricted to them.

There’s been a ton of hoopla going on lately around the launch of this new sales platform called Kajabi.  I wanted to take a minute to discuss the biggest differences between Kajabi and something like Rapid Action Profits (RAP).

The owners of Kajabi have hyped it up to the max.  It remains to be seen if Hollywood-style 30-minute trailers will make much difference in the results they achieve, but I think they’d be better off sticking to 60-second trailers.

A lot of details are being swept aside.  But there’s one thing that can be observed pretty easily from the first video, and I thought I’d mention it because it’s going to be perhaps the single biggest stumbling block Kajabi has in terms of getting customers.

Now Anybody Can Earn Money And Split The Profits Among A Group!

Are you in a BAND? Or you’re part of a writer’s group or artist’s group and you want to publish a collective book?

Maybe you’d like to coordinate a group project somehow to create something for sale, but aren’t sure how to pay everybody?

People seem to come up with lots of great ideas for group projects that can earn them money, especially in times like these when money is so tight. The thing that has always stopped such efforts dead in the water is how the money is handled. Who do you trust? How do you account for income and expenses? What about taxes?

The trouble is, you usually need to have one person collect all of the income, then divvy it up proportionally to everybody else. Questions frequently arise in terms of the trust and integrity of this person’s actions. This is often not a task that many people want to do, so the group is often stuck with whomever they’ve got doing it, for better or worse.

Well, there’s now some software that can be used to automatically “split the profits” among any group of participants in whatever proportions are desired. Project participants are paid directly by the software, and payments are not subject to anybody dipping their fingers into the pot.

Furthermore, taxes are not an issue because project members are actually paid directly by customers. See, the IRS currently requires anybody being paid more than $600 a year (various limitations apply) to have that income reported to them via a 1099 for that tax year. If someone is collecting thousands of dollars of earnings and then disbursing monies to project members, it’s clear that whomever is playing the role of “banker” in that scenario probably needs to issue 1099′s at the end of the year to the various project members. This has a lot more implications than most people want to deal with.

That’s why this is such a great platform for running group projects! This software enables customers to pay group members directly. Assuming what you’re selling costs under $600, nothing needs to be reported (unless the tax laws change).

I’ve just posted a nice little tutorial on how to Profit from Group Projects as a Squidoo Lens.

It talks about how to set up a sales site that allows multiple people get compensated for their work automatically.  You set up whatever percentage of income each person is to receive, then drive traffic to the site.  Each person will be paid directly to their PayPal accounts in rotation, and will be paid in proportion to their designated percentage.  It’s very cool.

Not everybody is skilled in all of the ways needed to pull off a powerful product development and launch, so many folks are interested in partnering with others who have complementary skills.

This approach allows everybody to effectively “split the profits” automatically without having to deal with trust issues or other potential problems.

So this is the final part of the story about how my dad became an”accidental millionaire”.

To recap briefly, my parents were both self-employed, and while my mom never managed to create an asset of value when she retired, my dad did. The thing is, he never really saw it that way, nor did he set out to accomplish that.

See, my dad was really only interested in not having to deal with employees.  So when other real estate agents wanted to hang their licenses under him, he let someone else deal with it all.  They had nearly 50 agents before they even started charging a monthly fee and formalized the 100% commission structure for agents.

They had a small office in central Phoenix, and I’d hang out there periodically.  Agents would come from all over the valley, and would wait around to use the few computers to access MLS and other services.

I never understood why the office was so small and why they never expanded.  One day I started rambling on about all the great stuff they could do to help the agents by getting better computers, adding on more internet services, and so on.

After several minutes, Duane interrupted me and said, “David,do you know who our BEST AGENTS are?”

A thread was posted on the RAP Forum recently addressing some guy who blogged about RAP, saying it’s a good sales platform but that it’s “easy to spoof”.

Actually, that’s not accurate.  The vast majority of patches issued for RAP have been designed to fix security holes, and are frequently issued less than a week after they’re discovered.

However, there are a number of things that people do, or rather, fail to do, that result in both “leaks” and upset customers.

Rapid Action Profits (RAP) is a terrific platform for building simple ecommerce sites when you only have one product to sell at a time.  It’s not a general “shopping cart” in that sense, but it does have all the features of a shopping cart — except it’s limited to only one product purchase at a time.

Someone in the RAP forum posted  a review by a guy who said this:

“What sucks: This software is extremely easy to spoof…”

In a way, this guy is right.
